An effective, biblical model for raising prayer and financial support is to have personal meetings with one potential supporter at a time to do the following:
Let them know what you are doing on the mission trip,
Give them tools to support you (such as a prayer card or information about the ministry),
Ask them for a commitment to pray for you, and to give, say, $250, to support you on the trip,
Arrange for a follow-up meeting for after the trip.
And then, after the trip, meet with them to do the following:
Give them a personal report about what God did during the trip,
Pray with them.
Ask if they'd like to support you again, or someone else, to go on a similar trip in the future.
Letter for Support
Alternatively, you can send a letter to friends and family, asking for their support. Sample, modifiable letters are below:
The application process for mission trip scholarships is as follows:
At least two months prior to your trip departure date, email or mail a description of your need in 150 words or less, along with a copy of your family's 1040 tax return.
Your need will be prayerfully considered and a decision will be made as to your scholarship amount, provided funds are available.
